(Reuters) – CBS has sued rival ABC, accusing it of cloning its long-running U.S. summer series “Big Brother” with its new reality TV show, “The Glass House.” Thursday’s copyright infringement lawsuit contends the new ABC show is a “carbon copy” of “Big Brother” and even employs 19 former producers and staff from that show. Scheduled to begin airing on June 18, “Glass House” will feature 14 contestants who are filmed continuously with cameras as they live in a large house. …

After a few false alarms, TNT has officially renewed its cop drama Southland for a fifth season. The series will return in February 2013 for 10 episodes. It’s pretty amazing that the show has made it so far, given its history. LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – TNT’s cop drama “Southland” has been renewed for a fifth season, the network said Friday. The 10-episode season will premiere in February 2013. The series, which stars Michael Cudlitz as Los Angeles police officer John Cooper, who struggled to beat an addiction to painkillers following back surgery, featured a number of notable guest appearances its fourth season, including Lucy Liu, Lou Diamond Phillips and C. NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) – CBS’s lawyers have threatened ABC that its upcoming summer reality series, “Glass House,” is copying CBS’s “Big Brother” in a way that constitutes “a classic case of copyright infringement.” Saying that they will pursue “all available remedies if this course of action continues” (you’ll recognize that as lawyer talk for “we’ll sue”), the attorneys demanded a stop to ABC’s plans. LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – AMC is further bolstering its scripted slate by approving two new pilots. The first, “Low Winter Sun,” is “a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption” that begins with the murder of a Detroit cop by his fellow detective, with the culprit becoming enmeshed in the Detroit underworld as a result. Based on a 2006 British miniseries, the pilot is written by Chris Mundy (“Criminal Minds,” “Cold Case”), who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner for the series. …
