Revenge S01E19: “Absolution” Am I surprised that I was rocked AND shocked by this episode? No, I’m spoiled rotten by this show and count on its weekly infusion of jaw-drops the way some people depend on tasty drugs or silky liquor. But I am surprised at the way the tone changed in this episode, how it deepened and the world expanded and took on a melodramatic Phantom of the Opera flavor. Between the haunting memories of a long-lost father, the cinematic snowfalls, the roses laid on graves by black-gloved hands, and the choke-holds (well, maybe not the choke-holds) this episode…
Two cable networks, E! and Lifetime, made wardrobe changes this week, ditching their old duds for new logos AND new taglines to better indicate who they are now. And apparently one of them likes to get drunk and the other is a multitasking woman. So let’s take a gander at both new looks and do what we do best: Critique them to tears while we lounge about in the pajamas we haven’t washed in weeks. First up…
Happy Quatro de Mayo! Doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it? Props to Mexico for picking such a pleasant-sounding day to defeat the French. Also, props to all of you for coming out and commenting on yesterday’s caption! Such a huge turn-out. And my heart totally swelled up with joy every time one of you actually referred to Bonnie as “Fresh Bite Bonnie!” So after you enjoy the winning captions and give today a go, congratulate yourselves with an early Cinco de Mayo drink.
Parks and Recreation S04E21: “Bus Tour” “Failing up” seems to be a good way to describe most of the characters on Parks and Rec : Ron strives to never work, April aids in Ron’s striving, Andy thinks he’s made it because he no longer lives in a literal hole in the ground, Tom suffers through his job in the Pawnee government as a stepping stone to some greater entrepreneurial destination (i.e. alcoholic yogurt!?), Jerry is, well, Jerry, etc. Leslie is…
After a few false alarms, TNT has officially renewed its cop drama Southland for a fifth season. The series will return in February 2013 for 10 episodes. It’s pretty amazing that the show has made it so far, given its history. Southland actually started out on NBC, where it debuted to big enough ratings that I wrote an article titled “Can Southland save NBC?” The network was already well into its current struggles, and here was Southland , a great police drama that came in…
The Secret Circle S01E21: “Prom” No offense to readers that are dead, but I am so glad that in real life dead people stay dead. You know how when you’re at the mall and you run into someone and it’s slightly unpleasant, not because you don’t like the person, but because you weren’t mentally prepared to see them and so it’s more jarring than anything? Take that feeling and multiply it by infinity because nothing is as jarring as seeing a dead person again. Yo, I had closure on you, guy
